FICS ICSSD to ICCSP Qualification

The Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport (FICS) hereby gives notice of a name change of its post-graduate sports chiropractic qualification from International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma (ICSSD) to Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (ICCSP).

This name change, effective from June 1, 2013, was made by the FICS Executive Council acting on a recommendation from the FICS Education Commission. One reason is that specialty certifications are now much more common and recognized internationally and across professions than diplomas/diplomates for those completing specialist postgraduate education. Consistency with external standards and terminologies is important.

The second reason is that many sports chiropractors holding a US-based CCSP (Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner/Physician) qualification now want to further their education and gain an international qualification through FICS. The title ICCSP gives greater consistency within sports chiropractic.

New Graduates after June 1, 2013. This change automatically applies to you. You will receive an ICCSP specialty certification.

Past ICSSD Graduates. You continue to hold that qualification and are, of course, entitled to retain the ICSSD title and initials. However you will also be awarded and provided with an electronic ICCSP certificate, and ICCSP will be the initials designated to your qualification when you serve as a member of a FICS team at sports events. Graduates who would like to receive, frame and display a superior quality print certificate may order this using the application form found at under Education.

Sheila Wilson DC, ICCSP
FICS President
